Night of Encounter

Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it.” (Genesis 28:16 NKJV)

On Tuesday night, my bible study had an amazing praise night entitled “Night of Encounter” and it truly was amazing. The choir were reminiscent of the twenty four elders seated around the throne of God in Revelation 4, the atmosphere was thick with the presence of the Lord and the prayers resembled a spiritual prototype of Joshua conquering Jericho.

As I reflected on the events of the night, the Lord reminded me of a repeated message that my mentor drummed into my head of his disgust at “spectators”. I laugh whenever I think of it but I thought about the various times in which I was a spectator at such “events”.

We usually associate a spectator with somebody who comes to watch an event and in the context of the church setting; a spectator is somebody who only watches while there is a move of God.

Can you imagine being in the presence of God yet missing it? That is exactly what happened to Jacob when he had a dream and he saw the angels ascending and descending on a ladder. After he had awoken from the dream, he realised that he had missed God (Genesis 28:10-22).

That is something in which I used to be a victim of! There were various meetings, praise services, conferences in which God was present yet for whatever reason, I missed the opportunity to tap in because I was too busy spectating.

One thing I noticed in scripture is that God never does a miracle for the sake of it. In fact most times it is to help those who are weak in faith or the unbeliever. With that being said, there has been so many times where I have been entertained by the show when God is not in the business of entertainment. While somebody is receiving their breakthrough, I was being amazed.

It astonishes me the number of opportunities that God gave me to be blessed, refined and sharpened by Him yet I missed out! All because I was not positioned correctly with the right focus. It is almost like being present when somebody is giving out freebies yet missing out on the freebie because you were watching other people get theirs.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ (Ephesians 1:3)

The Lord has so much in store for us; all we need to do is tap into it. My encouragement for you is wherever the Lord is, do not miss out!

God bless!

Character with your Gifts

Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” (1 Kings 3 NKJV)

I have recently finished reading the books of Samuel and was very intrigued by the life of David with all the drama, the betrayals and the rebellions. His life was not for the faint hearted! I was so fascinated by his story that I thought to continue into the book of Kings and then Chronicles. This weekend, I looked into when the Lord told Solomon to make a request after he had worshipped Him and the Lord was impressed that he asked for understanding rather than riches or the life of his enemies (verse 10).

While I meditated on the chapter, I began to pray for understanding to lead people just as Solomon did and the response the Lord gave shocked me. He simply asked me “are you ready for that?”

The reality is when the Lord increases you; the purpose is not for yourself but for the benefit of others. If God gives me understanding, how would I have deal with it? Do I have the character to handle the increased understanding?

“……When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.” (Luke 12:48)

My prayer point had to swiftly change. The Lord NEVER builds on a faulty foundation and needed to prepare me for the season ahead. The worst thing that could have happened was for the Lord to give me understanding only for my character to destroy it. There are countless people throughout history who have been very gifted but allowed their personal character and weaknesses to destroy the gifts the Lord entrusted them with.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 2:17 NKJV)

We cannot just operate in the power of the Holy Spirit without the love. If you are speaking in tongues but your behaviour is terrible, why would anybody want what you have? I have heard of powerful men of God who have used their gifts to intimidate, lord over or put fear into other people. People are to be served and not to be walked over with our gifts.

The Lord has already shown me that this year will stretch me to another level in my walk but it is very crucial that I do not grow spiritually without growing in love. Paul said that all my gifts mean nothing if I do not have love (1 Corinthians 13:2).

And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:31 NKJV)

All character traits stem from love; whether they are integrity, honesty, peace or faithfulness and it is very important that these qualities are part and parcel of who you are. Ultimately God is love and it is fundamental we represent His nature in our personal missions in life.

God bless!

Day Light Robbery

Day light robbery…..

A robbery is taking place in the above video but what makes it even more disturbing is that it all happened in the daytime. It’s not hidden, not undercover. The robbers did not even hide their identities. If someone or some people can carry out such a crime in daylight it means that they carry the boldness and confidence that allows them to think that they could possibly get away with it. The robbers were fearless.

We have entered into this year excited about the things to come but be cautious. You’ve just watched a daylight robbery in a physical sense but do you know that there are many who are still getting robbed and we have just started the year. Robbed of what you might say? Their joy, their productivity, their opportunities, their dreams….and the list goes on. If you’re like me, I want to believe…

Goodbye 2014

See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭15-17‬ NKJV)

Time is an interesting concept because as much as it is consistent with all, the efficiency of it is very relative. Some people saw fruit whereas others had their own tree cut down

The end of the year is usually a time in which many consider their year and reflect on the positives and areas of improvements and set goals for the following year.

In this post, I will reflect on 2014 going through the highs and lows.

I have built up relationships within my family structure and although they are not necessarily where I would like it all to be especially with the extended family, I trust He who began a good work (Philippians 1:6).
In February I finally proposed to Simi after months of deliberation with the Lord and my mentor. It was an awesome experience because the way it was orchestrated, only God could have walked her into it! The lessons in between have been crazy as I have had to deal with contentment in my present condition without looking forward to the marriage so much that I fail to enjoy the betrothal season. The lessons I have learnt in preparation for marriage has been crazy because there are so many things in life that you did not even know you were supposed to think about, yet if they were not considered there would be unnecessary drama.

“The greatest investment in life is the investment in life” – Pastor Sam Baptist

This year would be my first full year of full time employment since graduating from university in 2009. The lessons that I have learnt have been immense. The ideology that more income equals more money in your bank is so false and was something I learnt in theory but to practically see the reality had me in awe. The Lord taught me how to handle my finances and I only started getting the hint in December. It’s amazing how long it can take to learn a lesson but I thank God for His patience.

“If you have hope for the future you have true riches; no matter how much you have in your account.” – Myles Munroe

It is easier to say I did well in my education this year because I didn’t have any educational goals in the first place. It is not a practice I that I will be continuing in 2015 because that will not be wise and I need to wise up if I am to achieve the purpose God has set for me in life.
By the grace of God I was able to gain a couple qualifications at work and I am currently on a course which should be completed by the end of February. A change in career was not on my agenda but the Lord was never fussed about my plans in the first place (Proverbs 19:21).
This year has definitely seen a greater increase in my application of knowledge to life in various areas via conversations with wise elders, mentors and reading of books. The television and playstation has been switched off more frequently than 2013 and I pray more so in 2015 so that I can think more like Him rather than the world.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela

There has been growth in this area of my life but not totally where I had planned at the beginning of the year. I do have some plans for this year but I need to exercise patience for the greater things to come as the Lord already told me.
In the meanwhile, I have been working on sharpening my skills that will require me to explode in the coming years. God has been working behind the scenes in my area of work to shift me in the correct directions and it has been made clear to me where various parts of my future holds.

“A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business.” – Henry Ford

My walk with God this year has elevated to new heights. By the grace of God I had a strong end to 2013 and God seemed to have continue that trend throughout 2014. My grasp of scripture has continued to be enhanced not just in head knowledge but also life application.
God has positioned me better in receiving my antenna signals from Him and given me clearer insight into how He operates in my life. God is still working on my character and it is an amazing journey as God continues to beat the bad habits out of me regardless of the pain I endure.
Another great joy for me has been seeing the growth that people I mentor have made. Imagine the joy a farmer has when the seeds he has planted are growing into bamboo.

“It’s not that there aren’t a million other things to learn about God, but He says you’ve got to start with the fear of the Lord because that’s the beginning of wisdom.” – Francis Chan

All in all 2014 has been an incredible year in the various aspects of my life and I pray the plans the Lord has given me for 2015 will be reached.

Goodbye 2014, Bring on 2015!!!

The Blessings of the Lord

The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed him and his entire household. (2 Samuel 6:11 NIV)

One can only imagine the joy that filled Obed-Edom as the ark of the Lord made a pitstop at his home for the three months and the blessings were continually flowing in his direction. Obed-Edom did not ask for the blessings and neither did he earn it so we can only conclude that the presence of the Lord brings along a heap of blessings.

Too many times we are encouraged to pray for the Lord to bless us and He does in diverse ways but there is this continuous feeling that we are missing out on something a lot more. The awkward sense that prayers has gone amiss (James 4:3) lingers at an increasing rate as we correctly discern that our prayer has not hit heaven but we leave it as we are not connected to Him to find out why.

By being in the presence of the Lord, you are directed to roads that lead to your blessing. Esau went out to a field to earn the blessing of his father whereas Jacob found a blessed garment in his twin brother’s wardrobe (Genesis 27:27).

This sort of understanding gives better accuracy to how we should pray and communicate with the Lord. Our prayers should transform from “bless what I do” to “what I should do?” The reason is that the Lord will ALWAYS bless you for obedience (Deuteronomy 28:1-2). He told Joshua that if he obeys His laws, he will have good success and will be prosperous. (Joshua 1:8)

Scripture teaches us how to be blessed yet we somehow expect God to change HIS principles because of our ignorance. Moses understood this principle so well that he did not want to go into the Promised Land if the Lord did not lead them. He knew blessings outside of the Lord will not last. That is why so many people have become successful and lost it all because the person that gives you something is responsible for sustaining it and that task is just too burdensome for man to carry.

Sometimes our prayers resemble planting a seed in a dark room and expecting a tree to sprout. That seed needs water, soil and light to grow into the tree it is promised to manifest into. Even if you add water and had decent soil but you devoid it of light, the growth will be good at best but will never reach full potential. Imagine if we sow that same seed into the true Light which gives understanding to the simple.

To dwell in the presence of the Lord, you have to completely surrender to Him. Truly believe that He has done a work to save you and He will make a dwelling within you.

God bless

God Rules in the Affairs of Men

…..till you know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will. (Daniel 4:25b ESV)

With a world that is so full of distractions it is very easy to miss the acts of the Lord. A distinct feature of the book of Esther is the absence of the mention of God. This however, does not limit His influence as it is clear that He was very active during the series of events.

There are times in my life where I just need to relax and reflect on the times God has been active in my life. Sometimes it is very obvious and other times I do not realise until deep thought has been put into action. The act of God in my life has led me to the conclusion that the term coincidence is not a reality.

I remember when I used to play monopoly on my old blackberry phone and it used to irritate me at times as the game was clearly rigged. There will be times when I will be approaching the property of the opposition and of all the numbers I could possibly get, I get the number that will land me on their property. Life is sometimes like that. Of all the families in the world I could have possibly got, why did I get mine? Of all the 100 million sperms that are released, why was it that I made it to the egg?

The lot is cast into the lap, But its every decision is from the LORD. (Proverbs 16:33 NKJV)

Every single one of these questions can simply be answered “because the Lord says so”. I have learnt over time that for the Lord to do something, He does not always have to come on a hype making noise as He proved when He appeared to Elijah (1 Kings 19:12). I guess that is why we miss Him as we are always looking for the flamboyant and extravagant.

When I used to listen to people minister about reading the Word in the presence of the Holy Spirit, I used to believe that there was some ritual or some morphing transformation that needed to take place in order to experience the shekinah glory that fell on the tent of Moses (Exodus 33:7-11).

Then one day it hit that the simple fact I understand scripture when I read it alone is a work of the Holy Spirit and I can promise you that no fireworks are triggered off in my room.

The Lord is very much active in our lives and this should give us confidence and boldness about how we live our lives and make the correct decisions in life. Trust in the Lord and He is guaranteed to make your crooked paths straight.

God bless you!
